Trying to book a luxury lodge at Whitecliff Bay, but we are informed we are not allowed to specify which lodge we would like and if we even specify an area of the park that will not necessarily happen either. Very disappointing!

Let me start by saying I really like Away Resorts and stay with them about four times a year (I'm retired). This was my fourth stay at Apple tree - it won't be my last. My only reservation here is the close proximity to a busy road and railway line and if you happen to be placed in that area of the park it can be quite intrusive. Having said that, the team will always try and meet any request you make in this regard at the time of booking but cannot give guarantees. I chose the Esme Compact for this visit. As the name suggests, it's a very small unit (I travel alone) and has quirky decor. It is bright with floor to ceiling windows and well designed. My only issues revolved around the furnishings in the living room. Presumably Scandinavians (style of furniture) aren't bothered about having a comfy sofa to flop on in front of the huge tv provided. To be fair, it's quite clear from the photos what's there so it's my own fault for thinking it didn't matter. Likewise the kitchen area. It's pointed out clearly in the details that there is no oven and that's fine. What I struggled with was the fact that there's no draining board and precious little workspace so if, like me, you are self catering it's a bit of a struggle. The microwave is also quite high up (I'm 5ft 2in) and retrieving hot meals from it without tipping anything over myself was a quite a challenge as was eating off my lap since there's no table of any sort. Consequently, my personal opinion is that it's not great for self catering but if you're planning to mostly eat out it'd be fine. There's a huge deck and comfortable deck furniture for warmer weather. I will definitely be back to Apple tree but the Esme Compact's must not for me.

Stayed at Barmouth Bay for a long weekend. Lodge was really well equipped and good value for money. Excellent location for dogs and had a great time. Will definitely be returning.
